OC stands for an abbreviation of oral contraceptive pill. Because every patient is different we offer several types of OC pills. One of them is called Marvelon. These tablets are a type of hormonal contraception commonly known as "the pill" or combined oral contraceptive pill. Marvelon tablets contain two active ingredients, ethinylestradol and desogestrel. These are synthetic verisons of the naturally occurring female sex hormones, oestroen and progesterone. Combined oral contraceptives like Marvelon work by over-riding the normal menstrual cycle. Taking the contraceptive pill usually results lighter, less painful and more regular menstrual bleeding. This means it is also sometimes prescribed for women who have problems with particularly heavy, painful or irregular periods.
Another type of OC pill offered by our clinic is called Triquilar. This birth control pill used to prevent pregnancy. The ingredients of this medication work by preventing ovulation (the relase of an egg from an ovary) and causing changes in the mucus of the cervix, which make it difficult for a sperm to penetrate and for an egg to implant. This medication may also be used to treat acne in women 14 years of age and older or help to regulate the menstrual cycle.
Except these two types our clinic also offer OC pill called Ortho777 and Age 28.
